The Jubilee Collection
with founders, Kayla & Betty Ann
Over the past year, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Kayla and Betty-Ann of The Jubilee Collection on numerous occasions. They’ve put their special touch on several projects including our first issue of Loving Local Magazine, and markets including “Celebrate!,” “Handmade for the Holidays,” and “Handmade at Highstreet.” If you’ve been lucky enough to meet these ladies, you know they can light up a room with their friendly smiles and conversation – I just love having them around!
I’m excited to share a little more about these wonderful women and the business they pour their heart into! From the Fraser Valley in British Columbia, meet The Jubilee Collection.
In just a few sentences, describe The Jubilee Collection
The Jubilee Collection is a vintage rentals shop where you can find inspired décor pieces and furniture for your wedding or event. Through our friendly and no-pressure consultations, we will assist you in curating your vision. And if we don’t have it, we will make it or find it!
How and when did you meet each other?
We met at church in 2006. We volunteered in several ministries together, but we really connected when we both served on the ladies ministry team.
What inspired you to start this business?
We found ourselves helping out at several weddings together and separately, so we thought, “What the heck! Let’s do this!”
What were your backgrounds before you started The Jubilee Collection (related or not)?
We both have interests in hosting events and entertaining, and we like to create a fun and pleasurable atmosphere for our guests. When you put that together with our love for vintage décor, then you got The Jubilee Collection!
What has been the most valued lesson(s) you’ve learned through your business journey so far?
It is important for us to have fun doing what we are doing. In the beginning we got consumed with details and we couldn’t sleep because of the obsession. We realized that starting a business takes a lot of work, and we have barely started, but we want to take it one step at a time without destroying the fun of it all.
Tell us three things about yourself that most people may not know about you
- People think it is only the two of us who are in The Jubilee Collection, but we both know that it is really our husbands who are keeping this together!
- Our prayer, are for women to embrace how they have been uniquely created, to celebrate the gifts they have been given, and to encourage them to flourish.
- And the last thing you may not know about us is that when we first started someone asked to “collab” with us and we didn’t know what that meant, but we pretended we did.
What do you enjoy doing to relax & recharge?
We love to drink coffee together and chat.
What can we expect to see from you over the next few months? One year?
We are currently working on a website, and we are very excited about that! Our goal over the next year is to focus on our social media game and on our website so that we can gain more of a presence in the local wedding industry. But one thing that you can always count on, is that we constantly update and refresh our inventory to match the current trends.
How has being an entrepreneur empowered you?
We are both gifted in hospitality, so being with people is easy for us. It is hard for us to do the tech side of things. We have been very stretched navigating the digital world, but learning this side of business has empowered us to grow The Jubilee Collection.
